SC has banned Bandh in 1998. However, some parties called for nationwide Bandh against fuel price hike. This Bandh like any other Bandh would have caused great loss to the treasury without much result. Hence Richa and her friends decided to protest differently- each of them printed chits on computer and distributed to the public demanding deregulation of petroleum products, direct subsidy to the BPL families against distribution of kerosene, rice etc. Richa and her friends formed small groups in most localities in their city to ensure that the needy reach hospital, railway station etc. on private transport on day of Bandh. At the end of the day it was a well spend day.
18. Castle scene (story)
Jai was student of History. He was given a project to cover any world Heritage site. He decided to cover Gwalior Fort. This fort stands on an isolated rock, overlooking the Gwalior town, and contains a number of historic buildings. It was the residence of the royal Maratha family 'Scindia' who were the rulers of Gwalior State. It was built in the 8th century. The fortress and the city have been integral to the history of the kingdoms of North India. The first part was built during the early Tomar rule, while the second part, the Gurjari Mahal (now a Museum) and the palace, was constructed by Raja Man Singh Tomar in the 15th century for his favourite queen, Mrignayani. The project by Jai included all intrinsic details and was appreciated by his department.
19. Lock out in a Mill (story)
Metallurgy, mining, machine tools and computers brought riches to some but caused many other factories to close down which could not cope up with the changing demands of market. Ravi an MBA graduate was working in an MNC. He was hired to revamp one such closed down factory. He studied the balance sheets, source of raw material and saw the state of machinery etc. He formed a business model where he procured the raw material economically and made plans to modernise machinery in phased manner. He explained customer engagement ideas, market segmentation, and pricing strategy to the workers thereby gaining their confidence. The factory output and profit slowly increased which brought back prosperity to the subsidiaries and the town.
