Answer by Cdr Rathore: Public Speaking plays an important role in SSB Interview as it is an important trait of leadership.
Let us learn to be good at Public Speaking:
Memorize concepts, not content: Memorizing the content word-for-word is not the best way to give a flawless speech but trying that can create a lot of problems for you. Memorization not only lends itself to sounding over-rehearsed (does not appear natural), but also, if your mind goes blank at any point during the speech, you will lose your place and potentially create an awkward silence. Or worse you may start to panic.
Focus on the concepts: Do this by creating bullet points of the content, stories, data, and key takeaways that you want to get across. Then, speak naturally about them. If you remember all those key points, great, but if you forget some, you can move on to another point.
First, try to stop thinking about yourself, your nervousness, and your fear Instead, focus on your audience. What you are saying is "about them." Remember that you are trying to help or educate them in some way, and your message is more important than your fear. Remember that you are there to express your views & no one is sitting with your script. If the audience members leave with one or two new ideas or a new perspective, you have made it worth their while. Focusing on being helpful or in service of the audience, instead of on yourself, can help you to relax.
Practice: You simply cannot be a confident, compelling speaker without practice. To get practice, seek opportunities to speak in front of others. Also, pay attention to how you are speaking. If you are nervous, you might talk quickly. This increases the chances that you will trip over your words or say something you do not mean. Hence speak at the pace in which you talk normally.
