Commander RS Rathore was commissioned in 1988 in the Indian Navy. He had the privilege of serving in the flying branch of the Indian Navy till 2001. Subsequently, he was trained by the Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR) to Select Officers for the Armed Forces and was posted at the Services Selection Board, Bhopal.

His tenure as a selector at the Services Selection Board (SSB) spanned seven years.

Commander Rathore took premature retirement from the Indian Navy in 2010. He has been training students for the SSB Interview since then. More than a thousand candidates have become officers in the Armed Forces under his guidance. He has also written a book to help students pass their SSB Interview. The 5th edition of his book (the Best Book on SSB Interview) was published in 2024 and is available on Amazon and Flipkart.
